    Pimpinella major 'Rosea'

    'Pink Burnet-saxifrage'

Apiaceae/Umbelliferae: a branched perennial to 1m, with hollow, ridged, hairless stems. Found in shady, grassy places. The flowers are pink, in umbels 3-6cm across, blooming from June-September. The leaves are usually once pinnate, toothed and oval. A pretty cultivated form of our native species.

    USES:

An essential oil from the roots is used as a flavouring in candy, and liqueurs.

The leaves have diaphoretic, diuretic, resolvent and stomachic properties.

    GROWING INFORMATION:

Seed requires a period of chilling to break dormancy.  It must therefore be sown in the autumn. Easily grown in any good soil, preferring rather moist conditions.
