Asteraceae: a bushy perennial herb to 1.5m. Found in dry woods, thickets and clearings. White flowering umbels. Blooming from July-October. The leaves are ovate, with serrated edges. Native to Eastern North America, from Louisiana to Massachusetts, as far inland as Kentucky and Ohio.
The plant has antispasmodic, diaphoretic, diuretic and expectorant properties. It is used in the treatment of inflammation and irritability of the bladder, ague, pulmonary diseases, stomach complaints and nervous diseases.
Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs.
Succeeds in an ordinary well-drained but moisture retentive garden soil in sun or part shade.
Fantastic for bees and butterflies.
