    Cerinthe major 'Honeywort'

    [Ex. Athens, Greece]

Boraginaceae: an upright annual to 60cm. Yellow tubular flowers borne in a pendent terminal cluster with conspicuous bracts. Blooming from June – September. After black seeds have ripened the plant "explodes" the seed capsules and the seeds are thrown a considerable distance. Fleshy blue-green leaves. Native of the Mediterranean.

    USES:

The flowers are bell-shaped and are nectar-rich and are visited continuously by bees.

    GROWING INFORMATION:

Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs. Full sun, dry, well-drained soils.
