Asteraceae: A rosette forming herbaceous perennial to 10-20 cm tall. Found in alpine forests, and pastures, on limestone. The flowers are yellow, and dandelion-like. Fruits 4-5 mm long, short and densely hairy, without beak and pappus. The leaves form a basal rosette, with 3- to 5-sided sections, narrowed into a winged stem. Native to the alpine regions Central and South-eastern European.

    USES:

The radicchio herdsmen of the Veneto are said to have consumed the plant seasoned. Studies have shown that Aposeris is one of the best sources of ascorbic acid, tocopherol and carotenoids. The results of our study justify its use in the early spring wild food cuisine and may stimulate consumption of this nutritious plant.
