Rosaceae: A dense deciduous thorny wild rose to 2m. It has fragrant pale pink flowers from April to June. native to Mediterranean Europe. It is found in Spain, Portugal, southern France, parts of Italy, and the larger Western Mediterranean islands: Mallorca, Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily. There have been reports of occurrences in Greece, including Crete.
Plants like well drained and humid soils, quite fertile and with a neutral pH. It can bear very low temperatures, down to -23ºC. Full sun. Rare in cultivation.
Sow into well-drained, sandy compost at any time of year, cover to their own depth with sand or grit. No artificial heat is needed; seed tray is best left in a cool protected spot and kept moist. Seeds usually germinate in spring, regardless of when sown. Rose seeds can be slow and erratic to germinate.
