Dipsacus asperoides

‘Japanese Teasel’ (Xu Duan)

A perennial with erect stems to 2m. Divided foliage and tall, scabious-like, creamy white flowers with white stamens. Flowering July to August. Native to Japan.

The root of the plant is used in Chinese medicine.

Sun to light shade in deep, rich, moist but well-drained soil. Warm germinator. Rare in cultivation and adored by bees and butterflies.
