    Tellima grandiflora 'Fringe Cups'

    Saxifragaceae: a clump-forming herbaceous perennials with rounded, lobed leaves and small, cream fringed, bell-shaped flowers in upright racemes to 75cm tall of small, flowers often fade to light red, blooming from May-August. Found on rocky soils under moist conditions, occasionally in boggy land. Native to Western North America. A garden escape, occasionally naturalized in Britain.

     

    USES:

    A decoction of the pounded plant has been used to restore the appetite and to treat a range of sicknesses.

     

    GROWING INFORMATION:

    Surface sow seeds in early spring in a warm greenhouse. Germination is usually fairly rapid. Prick out the seedlings when they are large enough to handle and plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer. Grows well in humus-rich soils in a shady position, likes damp soils.
