An ornamental low plant which creates profusion of lovely blue flowers and golden fruits later. Found in alpine meadows, roadsides, walls, drainage ditches, cultivated fields, etc. at altitude 2600 - 4650 meters (8666-15500 ft). Native to Peru, Bolivia, and N.W. Argentina.
The small white delicious tubers are edible when cooked.
The seeds should be sown surface in pots in a warm light place and replanted outside after last frosts. Proved frost hardy for me last winter. But I would still mulch to be on the save side.
