Caryophyllaceae: A perennial to 30cm. found in coastal cliffs, sand-dune systems and gravel banks. The flowers are pure white or white with a hint of pink or mauve, blooming from May-September. The leaves that are waxy and sea green. Widespread and locally common around the coasts. Native to native to Europe.
The young shoots and leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. The young leaves are sweet and very agreeable in salads.
sow seeds in early spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Prefers a well-drained moisture retentive light loamy soil in a sunny position.
