Campanulaceae: a beautifully distinctive, hairless, unbranched perennial to 50cm. found on chalk grassland. The flowers are bluish violet, in rounded heads 15-25mm across, on long, slender stems, blooming from June-August. The leaves are oval at the base and narrower on the stalk. Rare and restricted to a few locations in South England.
This is one of my favourites, rare and of the most beautiful colour.
The roots and young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked.
Surface sow seeds, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Likes a well-drained soils in full sun. EASY!
