Urticaceae: a perennial plant that can grow up to 60cm tall. The leaves have stinging hairs, much like stinging nettles to which they are related. It produces bulbils in the leaf axils in autumn, these later fall to the ground and grow into new plants. Found in mountain forest margins, thickets, roadsides. Native to East Asia - China, Japan. Originally collected in Japan.

Moist but well-drained, humus rich soil in part to full shade.
