Geraniaceae: a branched, hairless annual, sometimes tinged red to 30cm. found on shady banks and rocky slopes, mainly on limestone. The flowers are 10-15mm across, the petals are pink and not notched, sepals inflated, blooming from April-August. The leaves are shiny and rounded, the margins are cut into 5-7 lobes. Widespread but local. Native to Britain, Europe and North Africa to the Himalayas.
The plant has diuretic and astringent properties.
Surface sow seeds in spring in situ. Succeeds in any moderately fertile retentive soil in a sunny position. tolerates a wide range of soil types, though this species is said to require a calcareous soil.
