    Cirsium aomorense

    [Ex. Aomori, Japan]

Another thistle fairly new to cultivation. It forms clumps of long, thick, glossy, softly spined leaves and, from June to August, purple-pink flowers held on erect, cottony haired stems to 90 cm. fantastic plant for bees and other insects. Native to Japan. Originally collected from Aomori, Japan.

Seeds should germinate well at 15 – 20°C, but I always sow thistle seeds in the autumn, for germination in the spring. Sun to part shade in moisture retentive soil.
