Campanulaceae: a roughly hairy perennial to 75cm. found in hedgerows and scrub, mainly on calcareous soils. The attractive flowers are 3-4cm long, bluish violet and bell-shaped, with flared lobes, in leafy spikes, blooming from July-August. The leaves are heart-shaped, toothed and nettle-like. Locally common only in South and East England.
Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Likes a well-drained calcareous soils particularly those on chalk and limestone. EASY!
