    'Greater Quaking Grass'

    [Ex. Tenerife, Spain]

    Poaceae: an erect annual grass to 60cm, forming a tuft. Found on garigue, pastures, cultivated land, waysides. Panicles of large, long-lasting, flat, ovate, pale yellow spikelet’s which dangle from slender branches. Plants form a tuft of flat, linear leaves. Native to the Mediterranean.

     

    USES:

    The seeds and leaves are said to be edible.

     

    GROWING INFORMATION:

    Germinates in 1 - 2 weeks and is viable for 3 years or more. Best surface sown in early spring. Easily grown in ordinary soil with good drainage in full sun. An attractive ornamental grass grown for their panicles of nodding spikelet’s resembling rattlesnake rattles, which gracefully hang from thread-like stems. Useful for dried flower arrangements.
