    Asteraceae: an impressive, stately perennial with a flowering height of 3 to 6 feet. A dramatic, late-flowering aster, September - November, pink flowers atop tall stems, emerging from a rosette of large, dark green leaves. Grows in moist meadows and wetlands. Native to Siberia, Northern China, Mongolia, Korea, and Japan.

    Known as gaemichwi (개미취) in Korean, the plant is considered a chwinamul (edible Aster) variety used in Korean cuisine.

    It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Traditional Chinese medicine, where it has the name zǐwǎn (Chinese: 紫菀). It has an antibacterial action.

    Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs. Tolerant of a range of soils, but in a good retentive soil, sun, or part shade.
