Ranunculaceae: A vigorous clump-forming herbaceous perennial to 70cm. Erect, leafy stems bearing bell-shaped and exaggeratedly spurred flowers, the central petals being dark yellow, the outer flower parts contrastingly lighter. Blooming from May – June. Foliage is mid green, divided and fern-like. Native to Southwestern USA.
Flowers are rich in nectar and are sweet. They make a very attractive addition to mixed salads.
The plant has Antispasmodic, diaphoretic, parasiticide, resolvent, salve properties.
Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly. Do not cover very small seeds, but tightly press into the earth. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs. Succeeds in ordinary garden soil, preferring a moist but not wet soil and a sunny position. A short-lived perennial, dying out after 2 - 3 years, though they usually self-seed.
