    Allium longicuspis

    [Ex. Kyrgyzstan, Feragana ridge]

Allium sativum ‘Garlic’ was first developed from wild Allium longicuspis in Central Asia, about 5,000–6,000 years ago. A. longicuspis is found in the Tien Shan mountains, on the border between China and Kyrgyzstan. This is said to be the closest wild garlic to the current domesticated variety A. longicuspis, in part because since A. longiscuspis is sterile, it can't be the wild ancestor, but rather a cultivated plant abandoned by nomads.
