[Ex. Rhodes, Greece]
Asteraceae: An evergreen shrubby perennial usually 15-20cm
tall but in the wild sometimes to twice this. Leaves 1.5-3cm long, linear,
pinnatisect, lightly woolly-hairy. Flowerheads 1.5-2cm in diameter, ten to
thirty, in corymbs, flowering early summer. Typically found in calcareous rocky
areas such as cliffs, gorges, scree fields, and even ancient ruins, and is
somewhat tolerant of salty conditions. native to Greece, the East Aegean
Islands, Crete, Turkey, and Cyprus. Originally collected on a northern coast in
Rhodes back in 2019.
Worth growing but not hardy outside here for me, but very
happy in an unheated greenhouse. Therefore, best in the alpine house. Well drained
soil in full sun.
