Boraginaceae: A perennial herb with creeping stems to 20cm. Found in woodland and scrub on calcareous soils. The flowers are 12-15mm across, funnel-shaped, pink at first, soon turning deep blue, set in clusters. Blooming from April-June. The seeds are shiny white nutlets. The leaves are narrow lanceolate, dark green, and pointed. A rare native found locally in Southern England and Wales only. Native to most of Europe to Iran.
Sow seeds in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Prefers a moderately fertile well-drained soil, in part-shade.
NOTES: Seeds are very slow to germinate, hold pots for at least two years.
