    Papaver bracteatum

    'Royal Botanic Gardens KEW'

    [Syn. Papaver orientale var. bracteatum]

Papaveraceae: A long-lived perennial to 122-152cm, with long, strong stems and large flower buds which break open to reveal huge 20cm flowers of orange/red flowers with black blotches. Blooming from May-June. Native to Iran and southern Russia.

    GROWING INFORMATION:

Surface sow seeds in spring. Germination usually takes 2-4 weeks if kept warm. Plants will flower in their second year from seed. Fertile well drained soil in full sun.

This actually seems to be a intermediate species between Papaver bracteatum and Papaver orientale. (Papaver pseudo-orientale?)
